  • Introduction of CSC Scholarship

      As of September, 2014, by the authorization of the Chinese Ministry of Education, Harbin University of Science and Technology (HUST) is admitting international students under the Chinese government scholarship program.


      1. Chinese University Program


      A full scholarship to support Harbin University of Science and Technology to select and recruit outstanding international students for graduate studies in China. It only supports master’s programs and doctoral programs.


      Applicants shall apply to Harbin University of Science and Technology directly.


      2. Categories


      Chinese Government Scholarship programs sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to undertake degree studies (bachelor, master or PhD) or academic research in China.


      3. Duration


      Chinese Government Scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study. The table below illustrates the duration of each program.


     

      4. Language of Instruction


      1. Instruction Language for undergraduate programs.


      Chinese is the only instruction language for undergraduate programs. Scholarship recipients of undergraduate programs must take one-year preparatory courses in designated universities and pass the required test before major
    studies.


      Recipients can apply for preparatory course exemption if they


      ● complete their secondary education in Chinese;


      Or


      ● have a valid HSK certificate that meets the requirement of the host
    university.


      Valid official documents from schools of secondary education or a photocopy of HSK certificate must be submitted for preparatory course exemption. Please NOTE that HSK results are valid for 2 years.


      2. Instruction Language for graduate programs and non-degree programs.


      ● Scholarship recipients of Chinese-taught programs without adequate Chinese proficiency must take Chinese language training courses for one to two years to reach the language requirements of Harbin University of Science and Technology before commencing major studies. Failure to reach the required language proficiency will lead to the automatic termination of scholarship. Recipients in such programs as Science, Engineering, Economics, Management, Law and Arts will take Chinese courses for one year. Recipients in Literature, History, Philosophy and Chinese Medicine will take Chinese courses for no more than two years.


      ● Scholarship recipients of English-taught programs or those with adequate Chinese language proficiency do not need to take Chinese language courses


      5. Coverage of Chinese Government Scholarship


      Full Scholarship


      ● A waiver fee of registration, tuition, laboratory experiments, internship, and basic textbooks.


      Cost of experiments or internships beyond the program curricular is at student’s own expense.


      Cost of books or learning materials other than required basic textbooks is at student’s own expense.


      ● Free on-campus dormitory accommodation.


      ● A living allowance at the following rates( per month),


      undergraduates: CNY 1,400;


      master’s students & general scholars: CNY 1,700;


      doctoral students & senior scholars: CNY 2,000.


      Scholarship recipients registering before the 15th of the registration month (the 15th included) will be granted the full living allowance of that month. Recipients registering after the 15th of the registration month will be granted half of the living allowance of that month.


      ● One-off settlement subsidy:


      CNY 1,000 for new students who will study in China for less than one academic year;


      CNY 1,500 for new students who will study in China for one academic year or above.


      ● Outpatient medical service and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China.


      ● One-off inter-city travel reimbursement:


      A hard-seat train ticket (hard-berth train ticket for overnight trip) will be reimbursed for scholarship students traveling from the port of entry to the city of the host university or Chinese language training (preparatory) school upon registration;


      from the city of Chinese language training (preparatory) school to the city of the host university upon finishing the Chinese language training (preparatory)study;


      from the city of the host university to the nearest port of departure upon graduation


      6. How to apply

      a. Application Receiving Agency and Deadline


      The applicants should apply to Harbin University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as HUST) in their home country before April 10.


      b. Eligibility


      To be eligible, applicants must:
      - be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health;


      - not be a registered student in Chinese universities at the time of application; or be a graduate from Chinese universities for more than one year;


      - be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;


      - be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs.


      c. Application Procedure


      1. Applicants directly apply to the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of Harbin University of Science and Technology.


      2. Recommended candidates must finish the online application procedure at CSC Online Application System for International Students. Please go to www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org and click Application Online for International Students, complete the required information, submit the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online and print a hard copy.


      3. A package of complete application documents (Application Documents for the detailed checklist is in the following) must be submitted to Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of Harbin University of Science and Technology before the deadline.


      Please NOTE CSC does not accept any individual application other than the recommended applications from the designated Chinese universities. Applicants should consult Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of Harbin University of Science and Technology for the instructions of the CSC Online Application System for International Students and Agency Number.       d. Application Documents (in duplicate)


      The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly (two copies in duplicate):


      1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (printed by CSC), one original and one photocopy, in Chinese or in English.

      2. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide documents of being university students or on-post employees. Documents in languages other than
    Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.


      3. Academic record. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.


      4. A study or research plan in Chinese or in English (no less than 800 words)


      5. Applicants overseas for master or doctoral degree studies must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by professors or associate professors.


      6. Applicants for music are requested to submit one cassette recording of the applicants’ own work. Applicants for fine arts must submit six color photographs of personal works (two sketches, two color paintings and two other
    works).


      7. Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or
    http://www.campuschina.org). The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.


      8. Applicants with valid HSK Certificate should enclose it in the application package.


      The above documents should be bound on top left corner (in duplicate) and sent directly to the Harbin University of Science and Technology, who will forward the nominated documents to CSC before April 30th. No application documents will be returned.


      e. Approval and Notification


      1. Harbin University of Science and Technology will review the application documents and decide the nominated candidates.


      2. Nominated candidates will be officially awarded Chinese Government Scholarship with the approval from CSC.


      3. Each individual applicant is eligible for only one scholarship. CSC is authorized to award only one scholarship to each individual applicant nominated by more than one university.


      4. CSC will send, before June 30th, Admission Letter and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) of the approved applicants to the host universities, who will forward the documents to the scholarship winners.


      5. Students are not permitted, in general, to apply to change their specialties, host universities or the duration of study as specified in the Admission Letter once they agree to accept the scholarship.


      6. If applicants fail to register before the deadline for registration, their scholarship will not be reserved.


      7. Tips


      How can I log in to the CSC Online Application System for International Students?


      ① Go to www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org, and click the icon “Application Online for International Students” to enter the system.


      ② First-time users should register before entering the online application page.


      ③ Please use Internet Explorer (6.0 or 7.0). Menu selection functions may not work in other browsers.


      What do I need to pay special attention to when applying online?


      ① Please select the program, CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP.


      ② The item ‘Apply for’ refers to the program you want to apply for rather than the degree you already hold.


      ③Majors should be one of the existing majors offered by Chinese universities and be based on your actual educational background. A nonexistent or improper major input will affect your application result.


      ④Preference of Institutions must be chosen from 252 Chinese universities designated by MOE. Any institution beyond the list will not be available for recruitment.


      ⑤Duration of the Major Study should match the program you apply for. Please check APPLICATION DETAILS of each program for the specific schooling period.


      ⑥ Submitted applications can be retrieved for revision. Once retrieved, the previously submitted application becomes invalid. Therefore, revised application should be submitted one more time.
